PARAGLIDING FLIGHT AREAS IN LIMA

Paragliding flight zones: Miraflores

On the Coast of Lima, is the Parapuerto de Miraflores, located on the cliffs of the District of Miraflores. This Paraport was conceived, designed and built specifically for the takeoff and landing of paragliders. It is located in Parque Raimondi, next to Parque del Amor.

Miraflores - Costa Verde

The type of flight in Miraflores is “Dynamic” which means that paragliding pilots use the sea breeze that hits the cliff and goes up it to gain height and stay flying.

Once a good altitude is reached, and if the wind allows it, it is possible to fly over the entire Costa Verde, from the District of Chorrillos to the District of San Miguel (approximately 10 kilometers away). Miraflores is one of the most beautiful districts to fly, due to the tourist attractions that are flown over, such as: Parque de Amor, Larcomar, Parque Maria Reiche, Rosa Naútica, among others. In addition, due to the tall buildings in this district, such as the Marriot Hotel, it is possible to reach greater heights, since they can be used as extensions of the slope.

Tandem flights with passengers and sports flights are carried out intensively in this flight area. The student pilots carry out their practices in this flight zone once they have finished their Complete Course. Many foreign pilots visit this flying area, as it is very well known in the world of paragliding.

  • Location: Raimondi Park – Miraflores.
  • Flight Type: Dynamic.
  • Maximum height gain: 250 meters.
  • Flying season: All year.
  • Ways to get there: Taxi, bus, own mobility.

Paragliding flight zones: Pachacamac

The Pachacamac mountains are located 40 minutes from the city of Lima. The takeoff is located on Cerro Punta Blanca, about 5 kilometers from the town of Pachacamac. You can get to the landing in a normal car, but if you want to get to the takeoff by car, a 4X4 truck is necessary. Walking up from landing to takeoff takes no more than 20 minutes.

The type of flight is “Thermodynamic” which means that the pilots use both the wind that rises through the mountains and the currents of hot air produced by the heating of the ground by solar radiation to take height and fly great distances.

The takeoff has a 200-meter drop over the Pachacamac Valley, the mountain peaks have an average 500-meter drop and it is possible to reach heights of 300 meters above the summits, with which heights of 1000 meters are achieved.

Pilots who like active flying, reaching great heights and cross-country flying prefer this flying area. The most important paragliding championships of the year are organized in Pachacamac due to the technical and exciting nature of the flight.

During the summer, we carry out Tandem Flights with our passengers in Pachacamac. In addition, here our paragliding students carry out most of their classes. We also organize flight outings with foreign pilots who visit Lima and want to get to know this area of flight.

  • Location: 5 kilometers from the town of Pachacamac – Lurin.
  • Flight Type: Thermodynamic.
  • Maximum height gain: 1000 meters.
  • Flying season: November to April.
  • Ways to get there: Own mobility (4X4 preferably).

Paragliding flight zones: Pasamayo

The Pasamayo dunes are located an hour and a half from the City of Lima. The takeoff is located at kilometer 55 of the Panamericana Norte and can be reached by car. It is a bit difficult to find the exact launch because the dunes are always changing and also there are not many reference points; however, it is possible to take off from any part of the slope.

Parapente en Lima Pasamayo

The type of flight in Pasamayo is “Dynamic” which means that paragliding pilots use the sea breeze that rises up the slope to gain height.

The takeoff is 400 meters above sea level, almost all the time you fly over the sea and you can hardly see the trucks that pass by on the highway. With a good wind and some good luck you can reach 1000 meters above sea level. It is quite easy to make “top landing” (landing in the same place of takeoff), since there is a lot of space to land and the wind is quite laminar.

The slope is a giant dune 400 meters high and is 10 kilometers long, although only the first 5 kilometers are easy to navigate. The next 5 kilometers of slope are not facing the wind, so it is very difficult to fly there.

This flying area is ideal for students, as it is a large, flabby sand dune that is forgiving of many mistakes. Although during the summer (January to April) there is not a good wind to take height there, only a descent lasts 10 minutes; therefore, students can practice various flight techniques. The rest of the year you can find good wind to fly, but there are days when the fog does not allow you to take off. When there is wind and good visibility, it is a perfect flight zone to practice maneuvers and acrobatics, since it is flown at great heights over the sea.

  • Location: Kilometer 55 of the Panamericana Norte.
  • Flight Type: dynamic.
  • Maximum height gain: 1000 meters.
  • Flying season: All year.
  • Ways to get there: Own mobility.

Paragliding flight zones: Cucuya – Lurín

In the District of Lurín, located 40 minutes from the City of Lima, there is our “School Camp” called Cucuya, some 30-meter-high sand dunes, which we use to take the first classes of the paragliding course.

Parapente en Lurin

The type of flight in Cucuya is basically descents that last approximately 2 minutes; although sometimes, with a good wind, it is possible to climb a few meters and stay in the air for a little longer.

To get to the takeoff you have to walk about 30 meters to the top. The difficulty is that the sand is quite soft. The landing is extremely wide, you just have to be a little careful with some obstacles like rocks on the way, but they are quite scarce.

This flight area is ideal to start flying. Here we carry out our one-day courses and dictate the first classes of the Complete Course. Even our students who have already finished their full course, continue to accompany us to this place to practice basic flight techniques and fly safely. In Cucuya, you can fly all day, every day. There is never fog and the wind does not blow very hard.

  • Location: On the outskirts of Lurín.
  • Type of Flight: descents.
  • Maximum height gain: 50 meters.
  • Flying season: All year.
  • Ways to get there: Own mobility.
