Many people associate the sport of paragliding with skydiving. Therefore, they use the expression “paragliding” to refer to “paragliding”. Although it seems the same, the term “paragliding” is completely incorrect. This is because the paraglider flies or plans, as does an airplane or a neutral. While with a parachute, it does indeed “jump”. In skydiving, you jump off a plane and after a few minutes of free fall, the parachute opens.
Therefore, the exact term for the activity is: “Parachute jumping.” But don’t worry, we know that when you ask for paragliding jumps, you mean you want to do a two-seater ride or a paragliding course. On a tandem or paragliding tandem ride, the passenger goes ahead and the pilot goes behind driving the paraglider. While in a course, the student makes his first flights on sand dunes without the company of an instructor.
It is not said “jump in paragliding” but fly in paragliding
The pilot of a paraglider first inflates his sail, either running or using the wind. Once the paraglider is inflated, it behaves like the wing of an airplane, since it has the same aerodynamic shape. That’s when the paraglider takes off from a mountain, dune or cliff. He never “jumps” with the paraglider, the paraglider “takes off”. It is also impossible to jump off a plane with a paraglider, using it as a parachute, since neither the fabric nor the lines are prepared to withstand the forces of the opening. And the paraglider would be destroyed in the fall. In short, the paraglider “flies in a paraglider” and never “jumps in a paraglider.”
